Matt Caplan's second CD is now available. Apparently it's supposed to be avalable at cdbaby.com, but he had them at the theater tonight so who knows if you see the show you might get lucky...
It looks so professional, not that the other one didn't but this one is even more so w/ liner notes and everything...
Tracks are a fabulous mix of the old and new including:
- Change Your Mind
- Everything
- River Nile
- Oblivion
- Goodbye
- In Between
- Look Alive
- Camp
- Autograph
- Europe
- Feedback
Once again it's just Matt and his guitar, and it sounds amazing...well worth the $15...so what are you waiting for!?!?!?! Go get it!

1:14 am - Sorry to my Darlings and others
|
Sorry to all my Darlings and others for not being better w/ the Updating lately...the black out really messed some stuff up...so here's the upcoming events:
JOSHUA KOBAK Ahhh...Joshua, well we all love him b/c well how could you not?
REVIEWS
Joshua Kobak Thursday, August 7, 12:30-1:30PM 1251 Avenue of the Americas (West side of 6th Avenue, between 49th and 50th Streets)
Not much Joshua at all, he sang two songs. The first was a What you Own/Glory Medley and then he sang U2's Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For. A very good performance although way too short.
Tuesday, August 19 8:00PM Joshua Kobak solo SWAY (formerly McGoverns Bar) 305 Spring Street (between Hudson and Greenwich) New York City 212-620-5220
Awesome gig, I know a lot of people were scared off b/c after calling the place they said that it was strictly 21+. But they didn't check id's or have a drink minimum, which of course is dive standards but the place was kind of nice inside. He played some great stuff too highlights included:
Good Morning (a highlight b/c he used the little tool thingy where he doesn't have to use his hands) Maya I'm Sorry Overflow
He played for about an hour, all and all a very good set, and Curtis Cregan was even there to watch. Plus he mentioned that Subway Train’s next performance should be sometime in October….
UPCOMING EVENTS Up Coming Joshua gigs are always fun, although don't expect a lot of Mr. Kobak at the afternoon performance. As for the Bitter End Gig it is scheduled for the same time and day as Cary and Maggie's last at RENT. Silly boy w/ bad scheduling....
Thursday, August 28, 12:00-2:00PM World Wide Plaza (between 8th and 9th Avenues and 49th and 50th Streets) New York City
Saturday, August 30 - 8:00PM The Bitter End 147 Bleecker Street (between Thompson and LaGuardia) New York City (212) 673-7030 www.bitterend.com
He’s back…….
August 25-September 7, 2003 Joshua Kobak in Broadway's RENT as a swing performer understudying the lead roles of Roger Davis and Mark Cohen as well as the male ensemble roles. RENT has 8 performances a week at the Nederlander Theatre (208 West 41st Street, New York City). Tickets available at the theatre's box office and at Ticketmaster online or by phone at 212-307-4100 and 800-755-4000.
KATY PFAFFL & OTHERS Well we all know Katy is insanely talented, and to top it all off the woman plays w/ some excellent people. Here's the info on her latest appearances:

August 24th 2003 10pm The Triad 158 W. 72nd St., 2nd flr. NY, NY 10023 $10 (I'm assuming + 2 drinks)
KATY PFAFFL & SCOTT CHASOLEN Katy and Scott a fabulous combo, now if only they'd play in NYC, and NOT on Cary and Maggie’s last!

BROADWAY IN BRYANT PARK
REVIEW
August 14 Chicago | Rent | Aida | Thoroughly Modern Millie
A Fabulous performances by all the casts who participated. It may have been hot as hell but everyone seemed to have great fun. There were a lot of awesome songs going on, but as Rent is sort of my subject of expertise that’s where most of the info will be : Chicago: Cell Block Tango If You’re Good To Momma All He Cares About is Love Class RENT Take Me or Leave Me ~ Maggie Benjamin and Frenchie Davis What You Own ~ Matt Caplan and Cary Shields SOL Remix ~ Solos by Frenchie Davis, Todd E. Pettiford, Matt Caplan and Krystal L. Washington Other performers: Andy Señor, Maggie Benjamin, Mayumi Ando, Colin Hanlon, Justin Johnston and Cary Shields Aida Strongest Suit Step Too Far Written in the Stars Easy as Life Thoroughly Modern Millie Sorry folks I’m not exactly sure what was sung as I don’t really know the show but I do know that they were all great
RENT PARTY Fabulous as always, can’t wait till they schedule another one….
REVIEW August 19th 2003 11:30pm (I think) The Cutting Room 19 W. 24th St. (bet. B'way & 6th) New York, NY 10010 (212) 691-1900 www.thecuttingroomnyc.com $10
The cutting room was PACKED! Everyone and their mother (literally) showed up. Almost nowhere to sit at all, and for the record this chica does NOT like showing up fairly early and being forced to sit as far away from the stage as humanly possible. But the performance itself was great. Performances included:
Black Velvet ~ The fabulous Alers gals Dream A Little Dream ~ Maggie Benjamin Crazy ~ Karmine Alers Josie ~ Cary Shields Say It’s Over ~ Kenna Ramsey Son of a Preacher Man ~ Kendra KASSEBAUM Seven Seas ~ Matt Caplan Feedback ~ Matt Caplan Dog and Butterfly ~ The Alers Glory ~ Cary Shields Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For ~ Whole group Also there were two performances by Darryl Ordell, another song by Kendra, Kenna, one By Mark Richard Ford and I’m sure I’m missing some. Audience members included Andy Señor, Justin Johnston, Mayumi Ando, Joshua Kobak and Curtis Cregan as well as others. All and all a fabulous show. The best I’ve seen so far can’t wait for the next one.
Well my Darlings….and others this concludes my update sorry for the length like I said the Black out screwed me on a lot of updates but I hope to see ya around at all the upcoming events!

*TEMPTATION!!!!!*
I can not even BEGIN to tell you all how excited I am for this movie!!!
Genre: Musical (more)
Production Notes/Status: Status: Completed Status Updated: 5 June 2003
IN A NUT SHELL The movie is centered around Urban Archaeology, a performance club, in the East Village of New York City run by a 30ish man named Pablo (Michael Cerveris). The club attracts a collection of 20 year olds who come to hide, test their talent, grow, live and sometimes die. Waiting tables and performing in the club are; Annie (Zoe Saldana), 20's, and beautiful with the "voice of an Angel" and Matt (Devon May), the piano player, who has been in love with Annie since she first came to the club two years ago. Unfortunately, Annie lives with Billy (Manley Pope), the ultimate bad boy struggling (and failing) actor.
As the film opens, Pablo encounters his old adversary Nicholi (Adam Pascal) with his beautiful assistant Sabrina (Alice Ripley) on the street. Nicholi's attention is quickly diverted as Annie and Matt come into view. Nicholi picks up on the special affection Pablo has for Annie and Matt and sees an excellent opportunity to settle some old scores with Pablo.
Annie's voice lures Nicholi and Sabrina to her window where they see that Annie's boyfriend Billy has lost his acting job and Annie has to rescue him once again. Delighting in anticipation, Nicholi and Sabrina listen to Annie and Billy declare their love for one another. Nicholi resolves to pray on Annie's weakness for Billy.
Nicholi proposes to Annie to make Billy famous through connections Nicholi has in the business, Annie must only "ask" for this help out of completely selfless motives. Nicholi warns that any hint of selfish motive or regret from her out of Billy's success will result in a "forfeiture" of Nicholi's choice. In fairness, Nicholi cautions Annie that Billy is likely to repay Annie by leaving her as he pursues his success. Feeling secure in Billy's love, Annie signs Nicholi's agreement.
Almost overnight, Billy leaves for the "coast", gets a job and becomes a star. His contact with Annie quickly diminishes. Returning to New York after 6 months he breaks it to Annie that it is time to "turn the page". Annie's anger and hurt turn to regret for having helped Billy. Realizing that her motives were not "pure" Annie is disheartened by her failure to live up to the bargain she made with herself and with Nicholi. Either by Nicholi's handiwork or by her own loss of innocence, Annie can no longer sing the way she once did.
Invigorated by the misery he causes, Nicholi celebrates his triumphs over Pablo. Annie has receded into her apartment. Matt goes to her, hoping to tell her how he feels and pull her back to herself. He cajoles Annie into joining him for coffee and the two have a great time together. Nicholi' quickly puts an end to Matt's plan and Annie's recovery by bringing Billy back to apologize to Annie and ask her come away with him.
Unaware that Annie has resolved to go with Billy, Matt seeks out Nicholi and proposes that Nicholi restore Annie's ability to sing. Not one to pass up an opportunity, Nicholi tells Matt he will restore Annie's voice but any uttered regret on Matt's part will result in "a forfeiture" for all concerned - Nicholi's devilish "trifecta."

MATT CAPLAN… Oh yeah for Matt…he's in such a phantasmigorical mood lately and it's so fun...
REVIEWS Last night was Matt Caplan's Solo Gig at the Triad and Although he was heard to tell people that it began at 8:30pm, the Gig started at 9pm sharp (more or less) as the email (and I reported Yeah go me lol!) The gig $10 plus drinks which as ya'll know is a bit price-y but as promised he did "make it worth your while". The set list was as follows (and written on the back of an Aisha De Hass Bio insert):
Take One Look Divide and Conquer Blink of an Eye or Fuel to the Fire Growing as We're Grieving Noise Goodbye Sideways Look Alive (upon request) Europe Seven Seas Camp The River Nile Feedback (which is the official title of Pretty Poison) Greenbay (plus story!)
Matt was in great spirits, he laughed, smiled, asked for requests (not that he played them or anything but he asked and it's the thought that counts) and even promised to play River Can Break at an upcoming gig. He played Greenbay last and told "the story" w/ some really entertaining physical movements added to it due to request and the fact that he guessed "...the song doesn't really make much sense w/out the story" He also stood around trying to figure out the lyrics....can none of the boys remember their own lyrics?
Afterwards Matt stood around selling Cds (the old one), signing autographs and thanking everyone for coming. As for the "NEW CD" ...the new one WILL NOT be out for the Matt/Katy gig in August...although he told me it would be out in three weeks at Subway Train, the silly boy is now talking about doing some remastering...sigh. He did promise that as soon as the cd came out he was going to "throw it up on the internet w/ the other one" so fear not none NYers, you won't be forgotten.
AND THE NEXT GIG IS…
*JOSHUA KOBAK* This Wednesday, July 30, 5:00-8:00PM Jersey City, NJ *Directions: Take the PATH train from Manhattan towards Journal Square(JSQ). Get off at Pavonia, the 1st stop after Christopher Street. Concert is right on the water.*
Well that's it for this issue Darlings...Ifn' ya'll got anything to say, reviews, suggestions other stuff you know what to do....just drop me a line
